Visual artist or pop musician?

The artists participating in the exhibition project Double A-Side during the Boulevard Festival are both. On one hand they may appear as split personalities taking on two completely different personas: that of the museum artist and that of the pop musician on stage. But at the same time their twofold talent in these disciplines is recognizable. Artis, in collaboration with guest curator Ken Pratt, Centre for Fine Art and Stedelijk Museum ‘sHertogenbosch, presents a project especially to coincide with the Boulevard Festival. These highly original and outspoken artists will have their work presented on the three locations in the form of moving image, object works and music. It will take the form of an exhibition, discussion and live stage performances. The participating artists are

Heidi Kilpelainen/HK 119 (FI/UK),

Janine Rostron/PlanningToRock (UK/DE),

Angie Reed (USA/IT/DE),

Caron Geary/Cantankerous (UK)

Ursula Mayer (AS),

Martin C. de Waal (NL),

De Humobisten (NL),

Steve Claydon (UK),

Mario Mentrup & Volker Sattel (DE),

Tai Shani (ISR/UK),

Rob Churm (UK)

en Maaike Schoorel (NL).

The participating artists have found their way to both commercial record labels as well as prestigious galleries and visual arts institutions. And even if, in some cases, their music might be called ‘underground’, their visual cultural contributions –not only within pop music culture- are indisputable.  The project opens 4 August 2007. For more information: http://www.artisdenbosch.nl
