JASCUELINE HASSINK
The Power Show
This winter sees the arrival of Jacqueline Hassink's The Power Show to the Netherlands, a retrospective from this New York based, Dutch photographer in which power is the predominant theme.
Huis Marseille is showing the most recent series of works: Arab Domains, View, Kyoto and Haute Couture Fitting Rooms, Paris.
The Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam is simultaneously showing The Table of Power and video screening of Car Girls (17 November 2007 - 13 January 2008, www.nederlandsfotomuseum.nl
Arab Domains (2005-2006)
Arab Domains is a follow-up to Female Power Stations: Queen Bees (1996-2000). One of the main purposes of this project is to show a different and unknown face of Arab women in a more complex and positive manner than has been offered in the media over the last years.
View, Kyoto (2004-2007)
Having visited Kyoto in 2001 for the first time, Jacqueline Hassink is fascinated by the microcosm of the famous Japanese gardens in this city. In View, Kyoto she has emphasized the ambiguous border between private and public space while leaving an equal amount of 'tatami space'.
Haute Couture Fitting Rooms, Paris (2003-ongoing)
In this project Hassink explores the secluded fitting rooms of the Haute Couture fashion houses in Paris. These spaces reflect very precise the corporate image that the couturier wants to create and are only accessible for their elite clientele, where these women create their public persona.
