KAISER CHIEFS JOIN STANSTED PROTEST Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 February 2008

10:00 - 09 February 2008

The Stop Stansted Expansion Group are predicting a riot after chart-topping rock band Kaiser Chiefs backed their campaign.

The group has already attracted high profile support from former Beirut hostage Terry Waite and environmental activist Zac Goldsmith and are undoubtedly over the moon with this latest show of support.

In fact, they've wasted no time in producing banners and bumper stickers bearing the slogan "Kaisers Say No To Second Runway!"

The anti-expansion group is against the British Airport Authority's plans to build a second runway at the Essex airport and increase passenger numbers from 25 to 35 million.

BAA are to unveil their plans later this month.

Kaiser Chiefs, whose frontman Ricky Wilson is pictured left, joined the protest after being invited by SSE to contribute to a charity album to promote their campaign.

However, the Leeds rock outfit, famed for hits such as Ruby and I Predict A Riot, first showed an interest last year when they picked up a Brit Award.

Then, drummer Nick Hodgson voiced his support for the anti-runway campaigners.
