‘Water- way' to learn to paint!
‘Awash on the Web' is an exciting new, on-line, interactive learn-to-paint website, created by broadcaster and artist, Dermot Cavanagh.
Merging the popularity of watercolour painting with high speed broadband delivery, ‘Awash on the Web', gives users the perfect opportunity to learn to paint under the tutelage of one of Britain's leading watercolour painters, from the comfort of their own home.
‘I have been working on The Awash on the Web project for 5 years now - since the last series of the TV programme, Awash With Colour and I believe the website is the logical progression from the TV series' Said Cavanagh.
‘The technology wasn't readily available then to pursue an online version of the series, but with the high penetration of broadband across the UK, the conditions are now perfect for users to learn to paint from the comfort of their own homes. ‘Awash with Colour' was an extremely successful TV programme, which ran for 74 episodes from 1997. At its peak the programme delivered a daytime audience on BBC2 of 2.5 million and established Dermot Cavanagh as a popular broadcaster and painter in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
‘Awash on the Web' is designed by Northern Ireland web development company, Stream On, and is part of the DETI broadband initiative. The site allows for real interactivity and lets the user refer to tutorials, pause and rewind, and continually enhance their painting skills. The online tutorials will include those very same paintings featured on the TV series as well as a series of new tutorials, captured with state of the art equipment, and showing all the finer detail which up until now would only have been available through a personal painting workshop with Dermot Cavanagh.
The tutorials cover all the fundamentals of the watercolour medium, as well as tips and tricks for the more advanced painter.
From as little as £12.99 per month, the user gets access to 5 hours of painting tutorials with Dermot Cavanagh, where he showcases a classic landscape and walks the user through, from the initial sketching to applying the finishing touches. The subscription also gives the user access to the complete series of 74 episodes of Awash with Colour, which featured local celebrities, such as Barry McGuigan, Brian Kennedy and Noel Thompson.
As well as offering one-to-one tutorials, ‘Awash on the Web' will create a platform for users, to communicate with other painters, letting them share tips, recommend other locations to paint, and showcase their own individual masterpieces.
